1.  What are Mala beads used for?

Traditionally, malas are used for counting mantra recitations as part of meditation practice.  Because of their spiritual significance, or the metaphysical properties of the beads, some people also wear their malas as jewelry, or use them as decoration.  For more information, please check our blog post on malas.

2.  What materials are used to make malas?

-Depending on the intended use of the mala, we string them on the appropriate type of materials to make sure they will last long and not break.  Wrist malas can be strung on elastic string, or nylon string, and necklace malas are usually strung on either beading wire, or nylon string.  If the intended use is to count mantras, beading wire is more durable.  However, if the intended use is for the full length mala to be worn, nylon string is more flexible and generally preferable.  We also have a large selection of beads, with over 200 types to choose from.  To see more information about the metaphysical properties of the beads, check our or blog post.   The malas can then be finished with whatever kind of tassel you'd like.  Check out or blog post to see all the different options.  We

This number also connects the Sun, Moon, and Earth: The average distance of the Sun and the Moon to Earth is 108 times their respective diameters. Such phenomena have given rise to many examples of ritual significance. According to yogic tradition, there are 108 pithas, or sacred sites, throughout India. And there are also 108 Upanishads and 108 marma points, or sacred places of the body.

4.  What are full length malas?
