For people that like to practice yoga and meditation mala beads can be a great aid in your sessions. They are generally made with strands of 108 beads and are used for counting during a mantra mediation session. If you are doing a shorter meditation session then the length of the mala will likely be around 21 beads. So how do you use these products during a meditation session? Read on while we go over the basics of how to put this in to practice.
Luckily malas are easy to use in yoga and meditation even for complete beginners. Just follow the advice below and you will be well on your way to being a pro with them.
Decide on a mantra: The first thing that you will want to do is to choose a mantra and affirmation. This is absolutely necessary for getting the effect you desire.
Eliminate distractions: For your session to be good you must make sure that you have somewhere quiet to sit without distraction and meditate properly. Once you have a quiet place, sit cross legged and start to breath deeply. With your eyes closed, focus on your breathing and fall into a trance. Start to focus on your mantra while continuing to be at peace.
Use the mala: Now is the time to use the mala beads. First hang it on your ring finger or middle finger and touch the guru bead with your thumb. You can then begin to recite your mantra outloud. Once you finish with reciting the mantra, move your thumb onto the next bead. You then repeat with all the other beads until you run out. Depending on the number of beads in the mala this could take quite a while. Also if your mantra takes longer to recite will also effect the length of time. If you want you can even just repeat the cycle going the other way down the mala.
